County, NJ Contact: Ocean County HHW Disposal Days During the spring and fall of each year the Ocean County Board of Chosen Freeholders and the Department of Solid Waste Management conduct a Household Hazardous Waste Collection Program. Numerous collection days (17 days in the year 2005) are offered for County residents to properly dispose of toxic household products such as herbicides, pesticides, household cleaners, paints and paint thinners, solvent and photographic chemicals. Quantities are limited to 200 pounds for dry materials and 20 gallons for liquid materials. There is no charge for collection of these materials. This program is not open to commercial establishments, schools, and municipal/state government agencies. Pre- registration is required to participate in this program. For more information, call the Ocean County Solid Waste Management Hotline at 1-800-55-RECYCLE.
Explosives or Highly Reactive Materials may be dangerous. If you have these types of materials, call first for safety instructions. DO NOT bring these materials without prior authorization! These dangerous items include, but are not limited to, picric acid, isopropyl ether, calcium carbide, perchloric acid and benzoyl peroxide. Ocean County Paint Management Program Old, empty or partially filled paint cans can be dropped off at Ocean Countys Northern and Southern Recycling Centers from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. each Wednesday and Saturday. Residents can bring up to 25 paint cans per day to the Centers for proper disposal. This program is for latex, oil based and boat paints only. The program is open to homeowners, not businesses such as paint contractors. Paint contractors, other commercial businesses as well as homeowners can bring in empty metal paint cans to the Countys Recycling Centers Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. If contractors have paint waste, they must contract with an approved vendor. Anyone interested in dropping off filled paint cans must pre-register. To pre-register, contact the Northern Recycling Center at (732) 367-0802 or the Southern Recycling Center at (609) 978-0913. Asbestos Management Homeowners or contractors who have asbestos material they need to dispose of can bring their material to the Ocean County Landfill Corporation, Manchester Township, telephone 732-323-8528. Appointments are necessary for homeowners so that OCLF staff can properly assist homeowners with the disposal of the asbestos at the drop-off area. Windward Industries, Inc., Brick Township, telephone 732-477-5377, also provides proper disposal of small quantities of asbestos. There is a charge for disposing of this material. |
